Syria Park in Nausori was a sea of colours as hundreds of people, young and old mingled, sang and danced to celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival of colours.
Fiji Broadcasting Corporation’s (FBC) Radio Fiji Two in conjunction with Indian High Commission, Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) and Hare Krishna Society organised a colourful event to mark the festival.
ICC director Kishan Lal Kanojia thanked FBC for hosting such an event which brought all races and ages of people together.
“The event which was marked on March 17 this year is a moment to cherish the triumphant of good over evil. We in India see Indians gather in numbers to celebrate in streets in a big way but in Fiji it is wonderful to see that not only Indians but all races of people come together.”
The festival is known as the Harvest or Spring Festival as well.
Hare Krishna Society started off the programme with a march from Nausori town to the park where everyone was given free sweets and lunch.
The society prepared 1200 plates of vegetarian food for everyone at the park who came to celebrate the event.
Radio Fiji Two programmes director Veena Bhatnagar said they were honoured to host the event.
“It is an annual event and a time to forget about everything and enjoy yourself in welcoming the spring festival.”
